  • AAWD 2024 Bushee Award Winners

Bushee Senior Dental Student Award each year to honor senior dental students who have achieved academic excellence and have demonstrated outstanding leadership.

    Dr. Bushee graduated from Northwestern Dental School in 1944. After 15 years in private practice, she entered the academic world. She attained the position of Professor of Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics as well as Assistant Dean for Administration at Southern Illinois University of Dental Medicine. Dr. Bushee was an accomplished author and lecturer.  She lived her life with verve and style. The recipient of this award should demonstrate enthusiasm in her career in dentistry and in her life as a colleague, friend and mentor. [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text]

    Student Chapter of the Year Award

    This award recognizes a Student Chapter in good standing with AAWD that has collectively demonstrated support for the AAWD mission and has participated in oral health research targeting women’s issues, community service activities, fundraising campaigns, and chapter activities/events.

    Student Leader of the Year Award

    This award recognizes the student that is a member in good standing (i.e. a member of AAWD national) who has demonstrated an outstanding and unique leadership style throughout the year that has positively impacted her chapter and AAWD; supported the AAWD mission; and participated in oral health research targeting women issues, a variety of community service activities, several fundraising campaigns, and numerous chapter activities/events.

    Lucy Hobbs Taylor Award

    This award is the highest award at AAWD. To be nominated for this award one must be an example of true professionalism and has a record of accomplishments in one or more areas of dentistry, has a record of at least 10 years of membership with AAWD, been a licensed dentist for 20+ years and has a record of mentoring women dentists.

    Mary E . Martin Volunteerism Award

    This recognizes a practicing dentist or dental faculty member who has demonstrated exceptional commitment to volunteerism, specifically in improving access to dental care for underserved communities. They bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to AAWD, and they will make valuable contributions to AAWD’s mission of advancing, connecting, and enriching the lives of women dentists.  The new Board of Directors are published on the Board page here.

    We are so proud to announce that voting is now open for our slate of candidates for the 2023-24 AAWD Board of Directors!

    The voting period opens today, Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 8am CST. 

    To cast your vote, please click the ballot link below.

    The voting period will close on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 5pm CST.

    Election results will be announced Thursday, January 5, 2023.
